I’ve been a three time participant at Mix With The Masters (Michael Brauer, Tchad Blake and Chris Lord-Alge). This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from your idols, a second shot at an internship and essential knowledge all in one. An eye opening, inspiring experience that is unrivaled in our field. The team at La Fabrique puts something really special together here and makes this a magical gathering. Thank you so much and can’t wait to go again.
Going to La Fabrique to attend a seminar is a better investment than buying a new piece of gear. To me it was a life-changing experience!
I attended the second ever MWTM seminar with Michael Brauer in 2010. Despite the fact that the entire program was still a prototype upon my acceptance, I knew it would be something special. It was an utterly transformative experience. I think I went into the seminar expecting to learn technical knowledge that would help me understand how to be a better mixer. But what I came away with was a mental reset and eye-opening inspiration to mix not on a technical level, but on an emotional level. I can’t tell you how fascinating and inspiring it is to learn face to face with these hosts. They are the best in the business for a reason. Not to mention, you meet a dozen new friends from all around the world who all share the same passion. They are relationships which my group has maintained for 2 years now. Incredible program, impeccable hospitality, and an amazing sense of community. If you feel this career path as an unshakable calling in your blood, I can’t recommend MWTM enough. Nothing else like it on this planet.
A life changer !!!
My name is Paul Andrews, owner of Bridge Studios in Colorado. After hearing of the MTWM program my interest peaked when I learned about the top-notch engineers and producers they were working with. I then saw that Al Schmitt was scheduled, and knew I needed to attend! My experience at La Fabrique was amazing… Everything from the sessions with Al, to meeting and working with all the attending engineers from all around the world, to the MWTM staff… and the wonderful food… Ahh the bread, Bon Appetit! As an engineer, my skills set increased tenfold. I walked away with more information, and learned more fantastic techniques in that week then I would in 6 months of school. Not to mention, I also made some great friends! Thanks again Al, and everyone at MTWM. I’ll be back!
I was expecting MWTM to be a special occasion and to help me move forward with music production. My expectations were blown away from day one. It turned out to be the best experience of my life and with music aside, was a life changing experience. It has been a source of inspiration for not only my career but my entire life everyday since.
With Mix with the Masters I learned to mix with the heart, I learned that I can have great results leaving the technique and my feelings guiding me. I learned a lot from the Masters and with the other students. Thanks to all.
MWTM is without a doubt one of the most important things I have ever done in my own career. I went with very high expectations and they were effortlessly surpassed. I learned more in one week than I have done in many years before. Michael Brauer really inspired me and pushed me to the next level. Nearly 18 months on and I am still digesting lots of what was taught and spoken about. This was for me an outstanding experience I will never forget.
I am a band leader, a composer, a musician and an aspiring engineer. Applying to Mix with the Masters was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Spending one week learning from Michael Brauer and getting to know the other fabulously talented artists attending the seminar made me a better musician, mixer and human being. In one week I had more epiphanies, made more friends, heard more great music, ate more excellent food and drank more wine than I had in the previous year. All in all, a great week. One I will never forget.
Being a teacher in sound tech for many years, I was thrilled to actually go on the bench myself. My expectations didn´t remotely match the tremendous knowledge that I gained at the seminar. My highest recommendations.
My expectations before coming, was to enhance my technical ability, and to understand why Brauers mixes has so much depth, but I soon discovered that it had nothing to do with technique, and all about feel. If you can zone in on what a particular feeling or emotion the artist felt at the time, and you can rezonate with that feeling so it becomes YOUR emotions, your technical ability then only becomes the vehicle to steer you towards the feeling. Feel comes first, then technical ability. Everybody can learn every technical skill or trick in the book or from their mentors, but very few people can translate their technique into soul.
I arrived at MWTM for the 2013 seminar with Joe Chicorelli. It was amazing. I left the seminar with a new perspective on recording and mixing. I was encouraged in the work I was doing but also challenged in areas where I was weak. The crew at Fabrique were awesome. It’s like staying at a 5 star all inclusive resort! And I made some great new friends.
Great week, great experience! I feel grateful because I’ve spent these days around talented people from all around the world and an expert like Joe Barresi, who is a generous master and an incredible person. Great memories!
This experience has been so inspiring, revealing the right way to do it, in mixing or receiving a band in your studio. The place is just amazing, and i had a swim in the pool !! I am looking forward to coming back for more…
I wasn’t really sure what to expect before arriving at Studio La Fabrique. Speaking to friends who had been there before, they assured me the experience would be amazing and enlightening, and they were right. Other than it being an inspirational and highly educational endeavor, the bonds made between all of the participants really added to it being a magical week to remember for a very long time to come. So much was seen, learned, heard, and shared between all of us and I really do hope to have that experience again. Thank you MWTM!
Going to the seminar, I was expecting to get a lot of little tips to make my mixing better, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Jack Joseph Puig turned my 4 years of music production education on its head, and has made me look at music and mixing in a whole new way. He taught us that it is about bringing out the feel of the song, and not about the tricks or mix moves you make. Thank you Mix With The Masters and JJP for showing me the light. I can’t wait to see what’s in store!
It was at first a little bit like an adventure, I was very open to see what will happen. I just wanted to increase my way of mixing, wanted to get new ideas and this happened more than I thought. Andrew Scheps´ seminar was brilliant, he answered all of our questions, was always nice and gentle, I think, it was the best I could do. This seminar taught me that mixing ITB will work for me, I only have to work on it. I have been a musician for all my life, now I am starting songwriting, producing and mixing. This seminar is a really big help for me!
Seeing Al Schmitt working was my dream. Thanks to MWTM, I met him, I spent a week with other colleagues, we enjoyed together learning from a Master of Sound like him. A great week at La Fabrique. I will do another…
MWTM Jack Joseph Puig was nothing short of life changing for me. It was exactly what I needed at this point in my career, and it had a profound effect on me. The Philosophy and Discovery that JJP taught has forever changed the way I Produce and Mix, so much so that I literally stopped mixing to write this. I find I am hearing differently, focusing on different elements of importance, and my passion for our art form has been inspired for years to come. Thank you MWTM… thank you.
It exceeded all my expectations! All of them!!
Mix With The Masters was everything I expected to be. Inspiring, challenging, fun. It was a great experience seeing a great mixing engineer as Tom Elmhirst working in front of us on all those timeless records, as well as seing so much talented people from all over the world to talk and share our experiences on the seminar and day-to-day work. Just one more thing to say…I already want to repeat!
Attending MWTM has way exceeded my expectations. What we heard at La Fabrique was mind-blowing! Meeting the other 14 attendees was such a bonus other than learning from Alan himself. Each of them has their unique field of expertise and experiences. It was awesome to learn from one another over the 7-day seminar. Alan has taught us other important and practical lessons than the technical aspects in mixing.
I expected this experience to be helpful and educational but I can’t express the value in sitting with a bunch of professionals (including Joe) for a whole week and sharing experiences, thoughts and ideas. The facility is warm and welcoming and the seminar is organized and professional.
The Steve Albini seminar was my first MWTM experience, and I was blown away. I had heard that these workshops were fantastic and I was not let down. Steve and Greg (Norman) are incredibly knowledgeable, and very transparent & friendly. I took away some great microphone choice and placement ideas, a very solid grounding in analog tape recording terms and procedures, and a renewed passion for recording music. Something I loved about this seminar is that Steve is not working magic; he’s doing things simply and elegantly in the studio, with often stunning results. La Fabrique is a remarkable facility, with just the right amount of isolation from the outside world as to sharpen one’s focus. The team run a tight ship and is very friendly and helpful. All the other participants are highly skilled, quality people, and we became fast friends. Should I have another opportunity to take part in MWTM I would jump at the chance.
Possibly the single greatest investment I’ve ever made in my career. I left the seminar remotivated, reinvigorated, inspired and confident. The insight, perspective and skills that you learn from these guys is like starting all over again but ending up so much more clued in than you were before. None of these words are doing it enough justice, you have to go and experience it for yourself!
MWTM is not just a seminar, it is a week of sharing experiences with people from all world, 24h talking about your passion, music, production, engineering. I was glad to be in Jack Joseph Puig seminar, I could find answers to many of my questions and most important about questions that I’ve never thought about before, some people say that it changes your life but I’m sure it totally changed my mind. I felt I needed to improve more and more, and after some weeks every second I’m thinking about the sound, mixing, gear, freak stuff… I think it increased my passion for this art of mixing. Also the place is just a paradise, the staff is lovely, the studio is more than just gears, some rooms are like a museum, I read that it was an inspirational place, it is.
I knew from the very beginning that this seminar was going to be amazing, but I didn’t think that it was going to change my life and approach to music and sound recording in such a positive significant way. Terrific experience!!
I jumped at the opportunity of spending a whole week with these two great engineers, actually watching them do what they do best and meeting people who felt the same. The spirit of the place is unbelievable and the whole atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. We had a unique mix of learning, socializing, eating, laughing and plain having fun. The participants blended into a formidable group of friends. We’re keeping up good contact with each other in all corners of the world. My expectations? Well, they’ve been surpassed by far… Thank you all at La Fabrique for setting up such a wonderful event!
You want to be a happy man? Then do yourself a favor and go to Mix With The Masters! Seriously, it’s one of those things that changes the way you think about and approach your job, and for the better. I’ll definitely go back to La Fabrique for some more audio wizardry!
Mix with the Masters is an absolutely spectacular program! It is exciting and invaluable to be able to learn from your favorite engineers in such an intimate setting, surrounded by like-minded people with inquisitive minds. It is an unparalleled experience, which serves to nurture not only technical ability (which it does), but also your philosophical approaches to workflow and life. I am a deeply passionate person who works from the heart, and MWTM serves to fuel that flame inside brighter and stronger, each and every time! Thank you to Al, Michael, and Steve for sharing so much with all of us. It is reassuring and so inspiring to see we all share one same thread… the art is all about the heart.
I expected a lot from this week with one of the Masters of our time, but what I found at La Fabrique was much, much more. I realized that « generosity » was the adjective I used more once back when friends and colleagues were asking about it. That of Eddie Kramer, that of the man who conceived this beautiful idea (and made it a reality with his team), and… that of all the other participants! THANKS!!
I had an amazing time, learned a lot and made good friends. Definitely the seminar contributed to my skills and opened new possibilities on how to think about music production.
I applied for MWTM, because I had watched all of the Q&A’s from previous seminars and was really impressed with the calibre of mixing engineers as well as the information they were divulging. Upon acceptance, I wasn’t sure what to expect as we weren’t given a formal schedule. This actually worked out quite well, as everything was explained as soon as the seminar began and was very much tailored to our needs. I had a fantastic experience, met many wonderful people and learnt a lot from our « Master » Jaquire King, who exceeded my expectations. and then some. I left feeling inspired and ready to take on a new and exciting stage in my career.
I participated in the 2012 MWTM with Tchad Blake. I’ve been a fan of Tchad’s work for over 20 years. If, like me, you’re a self-taught engineer/producer, the MWTM sessions are possibly a very revealing confirmation that you’re doing things… right! This was worth it for me. A major confidence boost to have a respected industry veteran listen to your work and like it. That’s what this was for me. It was a blast to pull up some of Tchad’s mixes and find out how he achieved certain sounds and effects. I also enjoyed hanging out with like-minded people from all around the world, including our wonderful hosts at La Fabrique, and our ‘teacher!’. My mixes sound way better too… Thanks to Victor, Maxime, Hervé, Isabelle and Tchad!
For some people it might have been a great learning experience, for some, game changing. For me it was: life changing! I was at Michael Brauer’s seminar in 2011, and still learning from my notes I took during the seminar! Incredible facility, incredible people, incredible knowledge !!!
So glad I went to the MWTM seminar with Manny Marroquin! Taking a step back from the usual tech talk and getting into the philosophy of mixing was a real mind opener. Of course there was plenty of tech talks after that (how could there not be with a room full of engineers!) but getting into the psychology of mixing and analyzing how we go into a mix really made me adjust my approach. I highly recommend taking a MWTM seminar to any serious engineer who is looking for an extra edge and wants to learn from the best in the business!
As a professional mixer I was curious which new tricks to get out from the masterclass but MWTM blew my mind. The days at La Fabrique changed my whole emotional approach towards the role in the studio and especially my mixing! I´m looking forward to going back !
MWTM was the greatest experience of past few years for me. It’s 100% what I’ve expected from those seminars… But just ten times more. One of the stunning things there is that you feel yourself involved into production process, you can listen and watch, how one of those great guys approaches it, but you also can push the « pause » button anytime, ask a question, and get your answer. Sometimes this is all you need. Thank you, guys!
Did a seminar with Tchad Blake and one with Eddie Kramer. They both shared their knowledge and expertise so generously. Changed my workflow forever. Experience of a lifetime and the best confidence booster!
MWTM was a true breath of fresh air for me. During this one week seminar I did not only learned from the best, I also got to share stories with the most dedicated, hard working people from all over over the world! If you ever get a chance to join this course, this will be a life changing week for you, no matter how long you’ve been in the business.
My expectations were insanely high, and totally blown away. Midway into the first day I felt I’d gotten my money’s worth. Seriously. A week with Tchad Blake was the most amazing « reset » that put me back in touch with what I fell in love about recording in the first place.
For me it was simply a dream coming true. I´ve been a fan of Michael Brauer´s work for a long time and I´ve always been listening to his mixes trying to figure out what he was doing. Being in the studio with him for one week, watching him mix, talking about his approach and getting feedback on my own projects was just more than I could ever ask for. Meeting and sharing thoughts with the other participants made the experience even richer.
Even if I’m in the business since 2000 I consider it a very interesting thing to do because I think you have always to learn. Especially from people like Mr.Eddie Kramer with his 50 years of experience. This was mine first experience at La Fabrique and I found that the studio is amazing, the people are brilliant, the food is great, the place is lovely…and I met really cool guys attenders like me from all around the world and now we are in touch. The best option for me. See you there!
One of the best seminars I have attended, the staff made us feel right at home and I learned a lot from the comparison with other colleagues.
I recommend this seminar to everyone, its a life changing seminar it helps you not only to learn from the experience « the master » you make friends a connection with people from all over the world, its one of the invest I ever done in my life.
Before being in MWTM I didn’t know what to expect about the seminar.I was wondering if it could be true until my first day in the studio. Being in la fabrique was a mind-blowing experience ! All the partners from around the world were awesome. The friends that I made in MWTM were freaks like me. The experience with Joe Barresi changed my life and allowed me to improve my mixing and production techniques, and I’m very grateful for that. A totally spiritual and professional experience, I can’t wait to be there again !
This was one of the best experiences I’ve had so far in my career. To get to know great people from all over the world that are passionate about this work, and way of life. Tchad is an excellent person and a true master in audio engineering. Getting to know him was also a huge part of it, cause it’s not only about sound is also about learning and getting in touch with persons that are in your same field. Getting to know their lifes and careers and how they have managed to become what they are. I knew this was going to be great, but i never knew it was going to be that great!. It is totally worth it. A life changing experience.
I didn’t know what to expect of that seminar, the concept looked amazing so I gave it a try. And it was far better than all my expectations! MWTM is not a class or something like that. It’s a week in your life, that you spend in a magical place in the south of France, with guys from all around the world, and you have the chance to look behind the shoulder of Picasso while he is painting…it’s just a life experience that usually you can not have…but now you can.
This seminar fully responded to what I aimed for. The master Alan Meyerson is a great guy, giving his vision of mixing, and his vision of the overall world of music. Everything in la Fabrique is made to feel in a good mood and allows us to be focus on the seminar, nothing to worry about, just learning good stuff with an incredible team surrounding.
This was an extremely superior week to spend and have fun with crazy colleagues from all around the world and very appreciated Master Tchad Blake. He might be crazy, too.. This week closed my ears from listening stupidity (at least my own, I hope), but opened my ears and hopefully helped my mouse-destroyed hands and minded it to act more like a painter’s paintbrush.
The best audio related experience I’ve ever had. The guest speaker went beyond audio and mixing, he gave us a lesson that’s going to help us go on the right track through our careers.
I expected a lot from MWTM because of the numerous positive feedbacks I had found on the internet, but actually got more than I could ever imagine. As an aspiring professional within the music industry I have learned so much not just concerning certain techniques used by the great engineers related to mixing/production but especially I have had the chance to witness the « magic » which happens behind the desk. I will definitely be back!
Someone said, when you have trouble, travel. For me this exceptional week far away from home was really mind blowing time and a good opportunity to find answers for the questions I had in my mind. Seminar, studio and surroundings with beautiful roads were way more than I could even dream about. When I first heard that Alan Meyerson was going to share his knowledge about score mixing and surround sound, I knew I had to participate this seminar. No matter what. This is THE SEMINAR I´ve always dreamed of. I got answers to all my silly questions about this and that. But all these great details of Hollywood-productions and his awesome ability to make fast decisions was something I couldn´t even imagine before. I gained the absolutely most important professional knowledge that I´ll carry with me for the rest of my life! Like Master himself told us: « Try to make 90% of the work in 10% of the time! » For me it´s really something to keep in mind in the future.
This was the best thing I’ve ever done. It was a thrill to hear mixing at this level, but more importantly it was incredibly human to connect to one of my heroes and realize he faces the same challenges I do. While there were technical parts, the seminar also shared insights and skills to deal with doing this work mentally, physically and emotionally. Real camaraderie. I’ll never be the same. Thank you so much.
Learning from Steve Albini made me rethink the way I approach recording. The whole time I was there I felt the cogs in my head turn and give me ideas on how to become a better engineer, improve my studio and how to ultimately gain more business and improve my life! For me it was a once in a lifetime experience where I gained vital skills I will take with me forever and it was done in the most beautiful setting imaginable, not only filling my head with new knowledge but taking me away on a relaxing holiday so that by the time the seminar was over I was refreshed and eager to get back to work!
MWTM was an incredible experience I’ll never forget. We had first hands experience learning from our master, Jimmy Douglass. And now I have a new refreshing approach to mixing. Plus briefly knowing about Jimmy’s Career was assuring as well, because the problem he faced was the same problems I’ve faced and it’s good to know when you’re on the right tracks!
The best place in the world for people working in the music business. That´s how I feel after spending one week at the amazing Studio La Fabrique in France for the Mix With The Masters seminar. And the concept behind MWTM is just right on: 15 people from all around the world, from different cultures spending 7 days with those amazing engineers and producers in a place that will have your jaws down. In my case, it was with the amazing Chris Lord Alge. One of my heroes in music. This was something to remember. I thank everybody that works at the studio for taking so good care of everybody, making us feel like it was home. And beware of Marie the cook… One will never be the same after having her meals for a week. Simply the best!!! My best regards to all and thank you!!!
I wanted to participate to MWTM with Steve Albini not only to watch a master work in the analog domain, but to finally put to rest all of the hearsay in forums and groups online where people are trying to dominate each others skills. Steve Albini taught me more about how I feel about my engineering skills than any other resource available to me. I attended feeling like I would learn quite a bit, when I left I felt that because of his guidance I feel more confident in my career as a recording and mixing engineer.
I was certainly nervous coming into the week. It is a big expense of both time and money to take a week and travel to Europe for this type of event. Day 1 put all of my fears to rest immediately. First of all the studio and the grounds are just amazing. Everyone should get a chance to record/mix in this type of environment. The staff was focused on taking care of our every need both professional and personal. We had learned so much, not just from Al but from all of the other participants, by the end of the 1st day my head was spinning. At the end of the week, I did not want to leave. I just wanted to get right back in the studio and make another recording. All of my expectations were not only met, but exceeded. I came home with an entirely new approach to how I record and mix. I have a great bunch of new friends in the business I can talk to about gear, music, recording and food. In short, if you have the chance do it!
I have always worked in the world of live music, therefore my approach to the mix was much directing and gave little satisfactions. Andrew Scheps has been source of confirmation of my knowledge acquired in the years, and source of deep inspiration. I came back at home ready to start a new mixing way… very happy for having known so many good professionals from all the world.. and now good friends.. Thanks Mix with the Masters…
Internship/assisting is not the way it works for most people any longer, and even more so if you don’t live in any of the bigger music cities. MWTM is an incredible way of learning directly from the most gifted engineers active today, in wonderful surroundings.
A moment of professional and human growth where fifteen engineers from different parts of the world are held together to get one final result: the best in the realization of their musical works, where technique and creativity are completely interlinked. All this thanks to the professionalism and the secrets of the master guests La Fabrique Studios.
There’s not a lot of opportunity to meet some personality who have changed the history of sound and music! It was amazing to meet and work with Eddie Kramer! I came to learn about his creative mind, the way how he colors the sound! It was really important to have his advice about my work and my view of sound/music. Definitely, it was a time before Eddie and it’s a new time now since I’ve meet him! The place and the team of « La Fabrique/MWTM » are just perfect to spend a great week! Thanks all of you and see you next time!
It’s hard to put this experience properly into words as it is so unique. Everything I read about it did not do it justice. The formula is perfect… a week engrossed in the production and mixing process with a group of great people and guided by someone with the skill, experience and approach of Jacquire King. It is a must for any and all budding or seasoned professionals. If there is a nicer, more generous and open human being in the music industry than Jacquire King, I have yet to meet them.
A week with Alan Meyerson and fourteen other audio professional from all over the world was the most insightful experience in my life. It is really a unique opportunity to learn from the best!
When I found this opportunity to go and learn from the guys that have made some of my favorite records, there were just no way I could miss out on that offer. The workshops have given me everything from new inspiration and techniques to use when mixing and recording, lessons in how to communicate with artists and bring out the best in their music. I’ve also met like-minded friends from all over the world!
There’s a saying in our business: « Mixing is an art that can’t be tought, only learned”. Being a mixing engineer myself for about 25 years now, I’m still learning something new each and every day. In that sense, the week with Andy Wallace at Studio La Fabrique was worth a year (or two), though. There are no actual tricks to share (Ok, maybe one or two…). The experience was mostly about a certain state-of-mind, the right attitude towards artists and their music, and good (really good) sound-engineering. Either you have an idea of what’s going on, or you will miss the best part: hearing « through the ears » of an undisputed grandmaster. It made me smile for weeks and months afterwards. This was something I was hoping for when I applied for the MWTM program, and my highest hopes were exceeded.
What I wasn’t expecting at all was the positive vibes from a group of brothers-in-mind who shared that week with me. I have a dozen of new friends from all over the world since that week. Thanks to the MWTM-team, thanks to Mr. Andy Wallace, and thanks to my fellow participants, for one of the most rewarding weeks in my life.
MWTM was for me like years of experience in a studio learned in one week. That’s you right in the spot, looking each track with a microscope… Absolutely mind blowing!
Originally, I just wanted to get to know some of those great guys behind the desks of some of my favorite albums. Ended up with not only tons of impressions, insight in highest-end pro-productions, tips for everyday job-life, but also with deliberate concepts of life in its whole (not joking)! It is so easy now for me to get out of bed early in the morning – I can’t wait to be at my DAW – every day! Mixing and producing music is surely one, if the greatest, professions in the world – I want to contribute to something larger, now. I love my job, and all self-doubt is gone.
A milestone in my professional and artistic journey. This week changed drastically my way of mixing for the better. All the knowledge shared is still infusing more than a year later, and the bonds created within the group hold strong. All that in one of the slickest studios in the world! Definitely a must for anyone whose passion for people equals passion for music.
My experience at Studio Le Fabrique is best described as a « once in a lifetime » opportunity. I spent an amazing week with my favorite mixing engineer which was incredible. More so, I also spent a week with a group of very talented people who were in my group, with which to this day, we have been spending a lot of time sharing ideas, opinions and tips. I can definitely say that I improved professionally from this experience and that I highly recommend joining any seminar that tempts you. You will not regret it !
I was an audio engineer/producer for about ten years when I heard about MWTM. Had done more than 100 records in Brazil, mostly underground/alternative bands. I was a huge fan of Andy Wallace’s work as a mixer and producer, so my biggest expectation was to meet one of my idols and try to understand a little bit how he works. I have to say that the investment made on the seminar was the best one I’ve made in my career in my whole life. Not only I learned so much from Andy, but I also learned a lot from the other participants that also became great friends of mine. I cannot recommend it enough!
Sincerely one of the best experiences of my life, I truly mean that. Seeing Andy Wallace in action at the front row was a revelation in many different ways to say the least. Chatting with Andy at dinner everyday was just awesome. Also, I had a great time with the whole MWTM crew and all the new friends we made from all around the world. A really interesting experience. The studio and the surroundings were some sort of spiritual retreats.
I had a great time and got a renewed (studio) mindset after I got back, thanks to Joe Chiccarelli’s approaches. Not so much about gear, but more how to handle different situations. Of course there was a lot of time spent with different recording/mixing techniques etc. I also learned a lot from the other attendees. The food was good, met so many nice people, I love studio La Fabrique! It felt like a holiday!
I’m a studio manager, a recording engineer and a musician from Finland. I was lucky enough to take part in Al Schmitt’s seminar in April 2012. That week changed the way I work and listen to recorded music more than any other single thing or event in my professional career. I’ve worked in studios for 25 years and Al’s MWTM seminar gave me a lot of new energy to keep on working! I also got to work, hang out and make friends with some really cool and talented people from all over the world which was a nice bonus.
I’ve had the opportunity to attend a seminar with Michael Brauer and David Kahne. Since then, every morning I get to the studio, I keep thinking about the precious moments we’ve had with those talented guys. It’s not only about technical stuff, how they use this piece of gear or that plug-in, it’s overall about how to get the right energy to be the best each day. I hope I will get back to another one-week session soon, because it’s one of the best and most intense things that happened in my young career.
I´d no idea, what would happen to me there, but I´m overwhelmed by the energy, motivation and enthusiasm Michael Brauer worked with us! I went home with lots of inspirations, new ideas and approaches and a deep emotions. Thanks to the participants and Michael for this opportunity and the experiences I could take.
In 2013 I found myself tangled up in wires as I built my first studio. Lo and behold, I see an ad for Mix With The Masters, and it seems too good to be true! Well, I can testify that it really is that good, and it’s exactly what you hope it will be. Actually, it’s more than what you hope for. It’s not only a place to learn production and engineering techniques from the professionals that invented them; but it’s a place to meet your peers from around the globe. Long after our visit with the great people, food, gear, and atmosphere of Studios La Fabrique, the entire class for Joe Chiccarelli’s 2013 session is still in touch. We continue to critique each others mixes, and inspire each other to do our best work.
My expectations were high but I never thought they’d be exceeded by this much. The week was an inspirational, creative learning experience that I’ll never forget in my lifetime.
The experience with joe was amazing!! He blew all my expectations !! I can say this was one of the best weeks of my life!!
It was over my expectations! The knowledge I brought back with me after the seminar is invaluable. The organization and the vibe of the people was amazing. Thanks for everything! I hope to be there again soon.
Before the course I wondered if it was only for technology geeks. This course was much more than technique. We went through the whole process and had constant focus on the music and how we could convey the essence of it. Andrew had a very musical angle and used great tools to highlight the most important elements. All participants enjoyed themselves and came home with a lot of useful techniques -and a good musical network with other participants.
The 2014 MWTM with Chris Lord-Alge was absolutely life changing. Watching the master at work was without parallel. I went home and revamped my mix rig and saw huge results immediately. Just an incredible experience and it was great to meet so many other guys into what I’m into.
Well what can I say what an experience! From the first day everything was extremely well organized by the staff. Everyone was friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. The food was also very good. The sessions with Joe were extremely informative and inspiring but also relaxed and informal. I learnt so much from the week there, not just technical things but also a lot of different approaches to recording, mixing and also production. It was also great spending a week with great producers/engineers from around the world and also learning from each other as well as Joe. What a great bunch of people! Thanks again
Andrew Scheps showed me that mixing and producing is doing what I really love. The music business is not always about being selfish and braggy. Politeness, calmness and coolness are great tools too. Andrew is a great teacher and listener. He told me to go my own way and question my workflow regularly. There’s no dogma. Do whatever works for you!
I´m a big fan of mixing engineer Tom Elmhirst and I was really really excited to be able to come and watch him in action in La Fabrique in August 2014. The week we spent there was way above all expectations. Not only that we got to see Tom Elmhirst (and his assistant engineer Beb Baptie) doing his very intensive mixing engineering in front of us – the vast amount of knowledge, experience, the different points of view for the whole process of record making, the attitude and the passion he shared to every one of us attendees during that week was the most mind blowing, eye opening experience. To see the professionalism at that very top level happening straight in front our eyes…!!! This all was truly a huge reminder that one has to give it all to make magic happening in the mixes. And for that one needs a lots of skills and willpower, a lots of knowledge on the technical side, the courage to break the rules, the taste of your own, the proper prepping, the understanding for the artists / producers / clients, energetic work flow… and GO! Million thanks to all you guys in La Fabrique!
I expected a great experience with a unique master and some nice participants. But what I got was an extraordinary experience with a tremendously lovely and human master and 15 new friends that will continue to exchange their professional experiences for a long time.
After years of working in music I started to feel suck. I never had a mentor or peers. Mix with the Masters seemed to be a solution to shake things up. As soon as we all arrived to this beautiful location, we felt an immediate bond as peers and Jacquire King was more than a mentor. He made sure we all grew individually building on who we were and what we knew and molding us to become better without loosing our individuality. He set an environment so that we could learn from each other as well as share his knowledge based on his vast experiences. I never felt there was a mold we had to fit. « It depends » became a common phrase used as well as an ongoing joke. I walked away with more that I could have hoped for in the techniques learned, the advice given, and the friendships made.
My expectations were quite high before I came to the seminar. I’ve heard that it was a « game changer ». After my week here I can honestly say that it lived up to all expectations and then some. You WILL see audio differently! If you get the opportunity to come here don’t hesitate. It will change you.. Permanently..
It was an amazing experience. I was little afraid to spend time and money, but for sure I’ve got the right decision. Chris is so intense and he mixed 22 songs in front of us. He showed us the way that he works. It was really a pleasure for me. The studio location is amazing too. Good food and the whole staff are so friendly. I really recommend this seminar to everyone who is working as a professional engineer.
As a working professional, it can often be difficult to find ways to rapidly improve one’s production skills. I saw MWTM as an opportunity to gain an insight into the process of the guys at the top. It is difficult to put into words the value I gained from the experience, as I found it to be quite transformational. The improvements I’ve noticed in my work, just a few weeks after the course range from obvious things, such as ‘better sounding mixes’, to unexpected things such as a brand new feeling of enjoyment at work – the results of learning the internal processes of David and Michael. I have more fun at work, my production sounds better, and it’s easier! What more could one ask for!?
MWTM was an amazing experience to me. Very different from all seminars I have ever been to. The whole week is all about making music and exchanging secrets, thoughts and ways to enhance your production. And La Fabrique is a wonderland. You can get inspired just by sitting down and looking to the trees, the lake and hearing the birds singing. Really a fantastic place for music! Hope I can get back soon!
Very inspiring and well put together. Tchad and Mitchell worked hard to give us what we came for and they succeeded. Plus they both have a very rare thing called self irony which also made it a FUN time.. I didn’t have no idea what to expect as i have never done anything like this, but it was definitely a mind bending experience. Thanks for that..
It’s an amazing experience from having a multi-grammy winner as a teacher and as an advisor, to having 14 great mates during the week. This experiences is just incredible. Coming back to my studio with all the acquired knowledge during the week just made everything different. My approach to mixing and producing became completely different as it was before the seminar and I love the result I’m getting now.
MWTM has been a life changing experience for me. Being able to meet and work along side a legend is something anyone who takes this craft seriously should do. You get to see step by step how the process works from start to finish. I would recommend this seminar to engineers of all ages, and any skill level above rookie. You should have basic knowledge of microphones and signal flow. I hope I get the chance to come back soon!
The Mix with the Masters session with the legend Eddie Kramer was realy one of the best experience in my Life. I will never forget that experience, also to meet all the other nice people from all around the world. We realy could share our wisdom with everyone there and we learn a lot from each other. That’s realy the best gift you can have as producer, artist etc. I will never forget that.
It was the video testimonials that sold me on this course, in the first place. Even though, I was still a tiny bit skeptical when I signed on, I can’t begin to tell you how invaluable this course really is. My work flow and my approach to mixing is 100% different after this course. There were guys who were still students in school, and there were guys who have been in the business professionally for over 20 years attending this course, and we were all changed by it. In addition to the things I learned is the new life long friends I made. It’s so great to have become so close to such talented and professional individuals that work in every department of the industry I work in. Some specialize in composing while others just record, mix, sound design or re-record. Thanks to Mix with The Masters for having me this year. I can’t wait to see how we all evolve because of this program!
Before coming I was already excited for the experience I was going to live. Once I was there, everything was perfect: the place, the studio, the speaker (AL Schmitt), the group of engineers… We learned a lot, we had fun and good food!!! It was great to have the opportunity to meet the « Master » and be with him for a week, learn from him, learn from the other guys, sharing knowledge. It was just a great experience not only from a professional point of view. Thanks!
